NZ House

About this Project

Necessity meets Zeal! Energy efficiency was the goal of this modern waterfront home. With an insulated concrete form (ICF) foundation, double-wall construction and standing seam metal roof, this passive solar home boasts an active 40+ R-value. Situated to frame the beautiful Prince Edward Island waterfront views and adjacent woodland, the double height floor to ceiling fibreglass windows passively heat the home during the cold winter months. Keeping the house cool during the summer, the solar shading devices located above the south-facing windows were designed to block the sun’s rays.

Environmental Impact

Passive solar heating design. Highly insulated home which reduces energy use.
