Green Gables Heritage Place, Parks Canada
About this Project
[location courtesy of Parks Canada] Working with Architect of Record / Lead Architect Root Architecture, diverse needs were successfully merged with high sustainable building standards in the recently opened Green Gables Interpretive Centre in Cavendish. This project, designed to earn LEED® Gold Certification, was comprised of a renovation/addition to the existing barn, ‘Anne’s’ historic home, and a full replacement of the visitor centre including a 10,300 square foot interpretive museum, administrative offices, multipurpose space, gift shop, washrooms and visitor processing area.
The architectural style was derived from the existing structures and farm compounds one would experience on route to and typical of the Prince Edward Island rural landscape. It is a modern abstraction of an industrial farm-scape with its gabled forms, saltboxes, saddlebags, and mix of white cedar shingles, metal roof and tall glazed facades.
Environmental Impact
