Project Title: Hotel on Pownal
Project Type: Hotel Renovation Project
Size: 24,000 ft²
Location: Charlottetown, PE.
Completion: Winter 2009
Previously known as the “Islander Inn”, the newly renovated Hotel on Pownal received a full face-lift with upgrades to exterior wood and stucco finishes, railings and entry canopies and facades. The main lobby, lounge and eatery was pulled apart and to create more of an open concept with various spatial environments from open-air to cozy and private. Dark-stained woods, contrast with aluminum, glass railings and brightly colored furniture. The biggest challenge to the design was working around existing structural columns and beams that were transformed into feature walls, coffered ceilings and beams. These architectural elements help to discretely define the common areas while maintaining a visual connection between all.
