Project Title: Cope Passive Solar Home II
Project Type: Passive Solar House
Project Size: 3,600 ft²
Planned for the same wooded lot in Watertown Connecticut as the Solar House I, this design took on an evolution of its predecessor. The house was designed to provide more-of-a street facing façade, with a large portion of the main level living spaces at the rear, hinged and turning towards the direction of the south sun. The majority of the open-concept living spaces are facing due south with ample solar gain and the upper story bedrooms back onto the same southwest facing facade. The style of the house is a marriage of traditional cape-style elements and modern clean lines. An abstraction on the front façade provides covered porch entry with built-in benches suspended from its support columns. The material palette is a combination of stained cedar shingles, painted wood trims and a standing-seam metal roof.
